DJI has announced the launch of the DJI Transmission (Standard Combo) with DJI Video Receiver with several improvements in addition to its commendable extended-range stability and low-latency transmission. The new transmission series now offers two unique combos, a High-Bright Monitor Combo as well as a Standard Combo, thus providing cinematographers with the ability to shoot diverse scenarios in ways that meet their specific needs.
The High-Bright Monitor Combo It has been designed to include a built-in receiver, making it portable and efficient in terms of setting up. The remote monitor is also equipped with an image processing chip similar to that in Ronin 4D, offering reception, monitoring, recording, and control as one seamless solution. Moreover, when connected to the DJI RS 3 Pro, this configuration provides a comprehensive set of shooting solutions that integrate stabilisation, remote monitoring, gimbal control, and Lidar (light detection and ranging) focusing. The monitor also comes with a safe zone, a frame guide, zebra stripes, false colour, peaking waveform, double tap to zoom as well as screen colour calibration and custom 3D LUT (look-up table) for precise composition, exposure and focusing. Further, it has a built in microSD slot for independent recording and storage of up to 1080p/60fps H.264 live feeds. The monitor also synchronises the recording with the camera, thus making it convenient for proxy editing.
The Standard Combo, meanwhile, is ideal to use with production monitors, owing to its ability to support metadata transmissions via SDI and the output of fractional frame rates. The metadata transmission offers compatibility with mainstream cinema cameras like ARRI and Red. Details of the shooting information like file name, timecode, recording trigger, camera setting and lens information can be transmitted from the receiver to the monitors as well as QTAKE. This enhances the communication and efficiency on set by allowing directors, cinematographers, and DIT teams to receive comprehensive shooting data first-hand.
Another advantage of using the DJI Transmission (Standard Combo) is that despite having one transmitter it can support multiple receivers, thus providing seamless video and audio fees in two different transmission modes. The Broadcast Mode can output real-time feeds via an unlimited number of receivers simultaneously, an ideal mode for large crews and multiple teams on set. It has been equipped with an easy camera switching index and real-time display of bitrate and video codecs, thus enhancing the shooting efficiency.
Users can also explore advanced control options by switching the High-Bright Remote Monitor and the Video Receiver to Control Mode, which also allows one to connect with other control devices. This enables remote control of Ronin 2, RS 3 Pro, and camera focus on up to two receiving ends, without affecting other devices connected via Broadcast Mode. Additionally, the Video Receiver supports voice calls, thus facilitating real-time, one-on-one, ultra-long-distance communication between the cinematographer and the director.
